Individual Therapy
The most common form of therapy, in Individual Therapy we’ll explore the issues you’re facing in your everyday life. We will then develop your ability to respond to those issues, and to eventually overcome them. While therapy can be either short-form or ongoing, I believe the eventual goal in therapy will always be to “graduate” and no longer need the regular presence of therapy in your life, meaning that you have the power to decide when you’ve fully benefited from therapy with me.
My approach to therapy pulls from several different domains, each contributing to your ability to make meaningful and lasting change in your life. I pull from several evidence-based therapy teachings, including Acceptance-and-Commitment Therapy (ACT), which focuses on the specific emotions you’re feeling, where they are coming from, and what you want to do with them. I also pull from Strengths-Based Positive Psychology, which emphasizes your innate capacity for change, and shines a light on all the tools you already have, that we can use in therapy. I also incorporate Existential Counseling philosophy, which you can read more about here, and EMDR trauma reprocessing, which you can read about here.
Individual Therapy sessions typically last 45-50 minutes, but we can adjust the length of sessions to fit your needs. Sessions can happen either in-person at my office, or telehealth from the comfort of your home.
Couple’s & Family Therapy
It’s no secret that our relationships can be both the most rewarding things in our life, the most frustrating, and sometimes both! Couple’s Therapy offers the opportunity to bring in a neutral and unbiased third party, to gain a new perspective on longstanding concerns. In Couple’s Therapy, my role as your therapist is as an advocate for the relationship, no taking sides, no biases, just advice and techniques with the hope of improving the quality of your relationship.
My approach to Couple’s Therapy is something I call “Individual Couple’s Counseling”, and it’s born out of the realization that comes from all therapy work, that even though our sessions each week may be helpful, you’re spending far more time outside of therapy than in it. Even if we can work through your issues in session, if that ability doesn’t translate to your everyday life it may begin to feel as though you’re stagnating. We’ll focus on the big issues of your relationship in-session, and tailor skills to work on your individual ability to regulate your emotions, problem-solve, and communicate for use in the rest of your daily life. Together, this will help you grow as individuals, and as a couple, strengthening what already works well in your relationship, and subverting what doesn’t.
Couple’s & Family Therapy sessions typically last for 45-50 minutes, but we can adjust the length of sessions to fit your needs, as more people in the room can mean more to talk about. Sessions can happen either in-person at my office, or telehealth from the comfort of your home.
EMDR & Trauma Reprocessing Therapy
Our minds, just like our bodies, have a natural desire to heal themselves. What we commonly refer to as “trauma” is -in other words- memories that our mind has, until now, been unable to fully process and “heal” from. This means that trauma can be something that happened years or even decades ago, or something which has only recently happened. Whether from childhood, a past relationship, a natural disaster, or any other tragic incident, trauma takes many forms.
Through Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, we’ll confront the lingering effects of trauma and resolve them. We’ll first work to reduce the severity of the negative feelings you’re still experiencing because of the trauma (the “D” in EMDR), and then work to more fully move past the trauma (the “R” in EMDR). By journeying through the process of EMDR, you can come to a point of accepting, not that what happened to you was okay, but that what happened is a part of your life story, and a part that need not haunt you in your everyday life. We’ll reclaim the power that was taken from you, and give you the power to live your life the way you want.
EMDR & Trauma Therapy sessions typically last for 45-50 minutes, but we can adjust the length of sessions to fit your needs, as more people in the room can mean more to talk about. Sessions can happen either in-person at my office, or telehealth from the comfort of your home.
Walk & Talk Therapy
Therapy can sometimes feel demanding. Between getting an appointment scheduled, commuting to the office, having the session, and then the commute home, it can feel like a substantial time investment, just to come to therapy. While telehealth can definitely reduce that time investment, for those seeking in-person therapy, it can feel like an imperfect solution. That’s where Walk & Talk Therapy comes in handy.
In Walk & Talk Therapy, we’ll meet at a location of your choosing. This can be a park, a nature trail, a downtown city street, or any other location where you feel safe and comfortable. In addition to the benefits of fresh air and physical exercise, we’ll be able to do the work of standard talk-therapy, but in a new and fresh environment, picked to be most convenient for you. While Walk & Talk therapy is still confidential like standard talk-therapy, there are unique concerns that we can discuss and create plans for, in order to make sure your therapy session, regardless of where we have it, remains private to you. The goal of Walk & Talk Therapy is to provide another accessible option for therapy, so we can take into account any mobility restrictions you might have in choosing your Walk & Talk location.
Walk & Talk Therapy sessions typically last for 45-50 minutes, but we can adjust the length of sessions to fit your needs, as more people in the room can mean more to talk about. Sessions can happen either in-person at my office, or telehealth from the comfort of your home.
